Meet the Maker: J. Elise Tea — A Wellness-Driven Brew Rooted in Purpose

At Detroit People’s Food Co-op, every product on our shelves tells a story. Some are about nourishment. Some are about culture. And some—like J. Elise Tea—bring both together in a powerful way.

Founded in 2016 by wellness advocate Ellarose Preston, J. Elise Tea is more than just a beverage company—it’s a reflection of healing, intention, and community care. What began as a personal journey toward better health has grown into a brand that invites all of us to experience tea not just as a drink, but as a daily ritual of restoration.

From Personal Healing to Community Impact

The roots of J. Elise Tea trace back to a deeply personal moment. While navigating her own experience with hypertension, Preston turned to natural remedies and discovered the benefits of hibiscus tea. What started as a homemade batch shared at a gathering quickly became a calling.

Encouraged by the response, Preston began crafting teas that reflect her belief: that what we consume should nourish both body and spirit.

Crafted with Care, Rooted in the Earth

Every bottle of J. Elise Tea is intentionally made using organic, sustainably sourced ingredients from regions across Africa and beyond. These aren’t mass-produced drinks. They’re small-batch, thoughtfully curated blends designed to deliver both taste and benefit.

From the bold, tart notes of hibiscus to the calming properties of lemon balm and the antioxidant-rich qualities of white tea, each ingredient is chosen with purpose.

Signature Blends You’ll Find at the Co-op

Heartea Hibiscus – A vibrant herbal infusion featuring hibiscus, honeybush, and spices. It’s both refreshing and deeply satisfying, with a balance of sweet and tart flavors.

Ginger Heartea Hibiscus – A bold twist on the original, adding ginger for its well-known anti-inflammatory and digestive benefits.

RoyalTea – A light, crisp blend of white tea, lemon balm, and pineapple—perfect for a refreshing, uplifting sip any time of day.

A Shared Commitment to Wellness and Community

What makes J. Elise Tea especially meaningful for us at Detroit People’s Food Co-op is the shared mission. Like the co-op, the brand is rooted in community connection, sustainability, and making high-quality, health-supportive products accessible.
